Bathroom Remodel Cost in New Jersey: Real Ranges, No Bait
Bathroom pricing has the widest spread in remodeling because 'remodel' covers everything from a new vanity to a gut-to-studs rebuild. Here's how to place your project in the range before anyone quotes you.
The three tiers
Central Jersey bathroom projects roughly sort into three tiers:
- Refresh — vanity, toilet, lighting, paint, hardware: low thousands
- Mid remodel — everything replaced in the same layout, tub or prefab shower, standard tile: roughly $12,000–$22,000
- Full custom — gut to studs, custom tiled walk-in shower, moved plumbing, heated floor: roughly $22,000–$40,000+
What quietly drives the price
Moving fixtures (plumbing relocation is real money), hidden damage behind old tile (common in pre-1990 baths — budget a contingency), tile scope (floor-to-ceiling costs more than wainscot height), and glass (custom frameless shower doors are a four-figure line on their own).
The written estimate after a site visit is the real number — and ours holds unless you change the scope, in writing, first.
The line item you never cut
Waterproofing. Pan, membrane, slope, and seam treatment are invisible on day one and everything by year five. Ask any bidder how they waterproof and whether they photograph it before tile — the answer tells you who you're dealing with. We document ours on every job.
